6th Grade - Dragon Heads!

My students LOVED this project! We started with making an armature out of brown paper towel and masking tape.  Just a ball first, golf ball size.  Then taped on pieces of cardboard for mouths, horns and anything else... tongues, spikes and etc.

We covered the armature with a layer of aluminum foil for strength. It helped hold on those extras.

Then, we started with our Model Magic! A base coat, thinned way down to cover the whole head.  If there were holes, they seemed to get covered with details and texture.  I encouraged a color scheme, not to go with every color.  We used the white, yellow, red and blue packs. You can mix many colors from those three colors plus white!

It works best if you can get the base coat layer on and let it dry overnight.  Adding the soft sticky pieces to the dry seemed to work better than adding to a sticky base coat.

Students trimmed cardboard for mounting the dragon heads. We painted with metallic colors and used a little brown oil pastel for some wood texture if they were interested. Definitely a repeater!!!!
