ONE DAY - Keith Haring hits the Slopes Mural!

Right before winter break, I had one of those awkward days where I taught one day of students who were done with current projects and not mentally prepared to start anything new.  I was also in need of something more wintery to hang quick.  So.... we made a one day Keith Haring Snowboarder Mural!

This was not a "real project"... I did not spend much time talking about Keith Haring. I had a couple visuals on the smart board for a visual reference and shared the basics. They all liked his work and were ready to create!

I had students focus their time on designing a creative snowboard. So, they traced MY Keith Haring figure patterns on to colored construction.  Most students had time to make 2 snowboarders.  They loved it!  Most the work was for me... I spent my workday changing the large boards.  Taking down the old mural and hanging this one for the next several weeks.  I love adding texture to a board when I can.  It is not overwhelming, just a hint.  But it makes a rather simple concept look more finished!

    1. LOL... I am so happy you like this! It is a crowd pleaser for sure! The kids came in not knowing I had changed the board and were all late to class! They were so excited to see it! Please copy!!! As I said before, I did make this mural years ago with larger figures the students drew and they all were wearing hats, scarves and mittens. It was super cute! I will have to dig around to find those pictures. I AM going to NAEA! Excited to see everyone!

  3. I would like to echo Mrs. Hahn's sentiments. I love you as well and will be changing my lessons for the next two days to do this as well. I love that it's quick, focused on an artist and fits the season. Since this is a half week I didn't want to get my students started on a new project so I had a filler, but this is much better.

    1. Have fun! The kids LOVE it! I did it for that exact reason, not ready to start something new with a weird extra day. Yes, I am excited for NAEA!!! Last year was my first time, it was a great time and very inspiring! Hope to meet you there!

  6. I've got to say, I'm not generally a big Keith Haring fan, but I absolutely LOVE how you used the Haring figures. So clever! Fabulous!!
